1280 View Haven, Hillsborough, CA, is perhaps Whifler’s earliest work, designed while apprenticing for Oscar Thayer c1956. For Whifler the building site dictated everything, from where the sun rose and set, the topography, and vegetation. A home’s design always embraced the lay of the land. For this site on the appropriately named street View Haven, a pentagon of windows allowed every room to capture the million dollar views. Years later in faithful observance to the original design, a second pentagon was seamlessly added.
