Hometown City Hall, Threatened with Teardown

Burlingame City Hall, 501 Primrose Ave, Burlingame.  1970.   Several architects contributed, but William Whifler’s vision shines throughout.  The curved city hall features a circular council chamber with copper roof and is situated across the street in the newly refurbished city library.  There is a movement by a few inside city government to demolish this mid-century treasure and replace it with low income housing.  A new city hall would be sited elsewhere perhaps in an industrial area.  As always, follow the money.
